The series featured Chicago reporter Carl Kolchak who investigated mysterious crimes that often involved supernatural and sci-fi elements. Universal Creator Chris Carter came up with the idea for The X-Files when he read a report saying 3.7 million people claim to have been abducted by aliens. 20th Century Fox Carter purposely went against established stereotypes by making Agent Fox Mulder a believer and Agent Dana Scully a skeptic.
